The Always Pan

This 2021 culinary masterpiece was designed, according to the website, to “replace 8 different traditional pieces of cookware” – fry, saute and non-stick, steamer, skillet, saucier, saucepan, spatula, and spoon rest.

Always Pan
The Always Pan – Steam

The Always Pan is available in eight natural colors– Spice, Blue Salt, Terracotta, Sage, Heat, Steam, Char, and Lavender. Boasting a high-performance non-stick ceramic coating and, according to the website, is made without potentially toxic materials like PFOAs, PTFEs, other PFAs, lead, cadmium, and nano-particles.

Our Place describes the Always Pan as made from Aluminum and compatible with all cook-tops. It measures 10″ diameter, 2.7″ depth, 2.6qt capacity-weighing 3 lbs without its lid. The design incorporates a modular locking lid to let off steam and dual pouring spouts. Several additional components, including a place in the handle to lock in the bamboo spoon and accommodations for an inner colander and a bamboo steam basket, make this the most logical cooking combination ever.

And the non-stick really works!

In addition to The Always Pan, Our Place offers matching plates, bowls, glasses, handmade cups, and knives for a complete kitchen experience.

The package design is impressive and well thought out. Instructions and labels are printed on the packing, minimizing paperwork or printed directions. Additional information is included on the website, which it is strongly suggested that a new Always Pan parent read. A small, natural Loofa sponge is included to clean the non-stick coating.

The Cooking Test

I cooked three basic meals: Broccoli and beef, chicken breast with a side of green beans. The third meal -sauteed onions and veggies, with scrambled eggs – it’s kind of a veggie hash I picked up in college.

First, the pan walls are high enough that everything fit-cooking evenly.

The beef seared quickly, and the chicken browned without charring. The onions did not burn. Unfortunately, I did not use the bamboo steamer as it has not yet arrived, but with lower heat and the lid affixed, both the broccoli and green beans steamed to a delicious bright green.

The eggs did not stick and blended well into the vegetable mix without adding oil.

The Always Pan is Not a Grill!

Here are a few use and cooking tips we found on the Our Place website.

  • Don’t use high heat. The Pan is designed for low to medium heat settings- that whole patience and cooking thing.
  • If you are looking for a quick way to boil water, use the tea kettle.
  • Don’t use too much oil. It isn’t necessary. Remember, it is “non-stick.” The website recommends Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, or Ghee.
  • And most of all, getting used to a new tool takes time and practice.

One Small Hiccup

The one negative thing is a small, almost secondary grab handle on the Pan. Don’t Touch! It gets hot. If you inadvertently try to adjust the Pan’s position on the stove or wish to carry it immediately after cooking and using anything but the handle, it might be a problem.

All in All?

After cooking three meals, I went to my pantry and cleared out four pans.

All in All? The Always Pan is a quality, slightly pricey essential choice in any kitchen.
