“Borderlands” feature film touts gaming fan-favorite – vulpine Vault Hunter, Lilith.

“Borderlands (2022)” is the eagerly awaited feature film adaptation of the smash action, multiplayer, first-person shooter gaming trilogy from GearBox Software and Take-Two Interactive (2k). Considered one of the most successful, critically nominated and awarded gaming franchises – including the Webby and Editor’s Choice Award wins, “Borderlands 1 (2009),” “Borderlands 2 (2012),” “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014),” and “Borderlands 3 (2019)” provide a complex, intricate and immersive world as the foundation for the next stage in the saga.
The full-length feature film is directed by Eli Roth (HOH, Haunt). Written by Aaron Berg and two-time Primetime Emmy-winning screenwriter Craig Mazin (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Chernobyl), it is likely to be a fan favorite – drawing a new audience to both the movie and game.


Avi Arad and Ari Arad, Arad Productions, and Erik Feig, through PICTURESTART, will oversee production. Gearbox Entertainment Company’s founder Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive, will Executive Produce.


James Myers and Aaron Edmonds are overseeing the project on behalf of Lionsgate. Emmy Yu the film showrunner for Arad Productions. Lucy Kitada and Royce Reeves-Darby are overseeing the project for PICTURESTART.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group producers of major film franchises such as “The Hunger Games,” “Knives Out,” and “The Twilight Saga,” expect a global release of “Borderlands” sometime in 2022.

“Borderlands” – Movie Basics

Filming began April 2021 in Budapest, Hungary, and the United States and stars Cate Blanchett (Mrs. America, Thor: Ragnorak) as the vivacious heroine Lilith. Jack Black ( Apollo 10 1/2, Jumanji: The Next Level ) has been cast as Claptrap; actor, TV writer Kevin Hart ( The Upside, Night School ); Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween Kills, Knives Out ) as the siren Tannis, and Erik Ramirez (Yes Day, Undoing) as the great and powerful Atlas.


The film expands on the original premise of the game according to Lionsgate and the IMDb film synopsis.
Lilith (Blanchett), an alluring but mysterious outlaw, is coerced into returning to her home planet of Pandora by Atlas (Ramirez), the quintessential power-hungry, psychopathic businessman-villain, to search for his missing daughter. Lilith gathers together a tenuous alliance to assist her on her mission. The confederacy includes the unrivaled mercenary searching for atonement, Roland (Hart); Tannis (Curtis)-the slightly schizophrenic siren with newly divine powers; and the interminably wise-cracking robot, Claptrap (Black).
